Custom Nitrogen Generation Systems for Industrial Sites

CW Electrical & Automation designs and builds complete nitrogen generation systems to suit your site, your process and your required flow and purity. Rather than adapting an off-the-shelf package, we engineer each system around your actual operating requirements — from the membrane process design and P&IDs through to the PLC and HMI controls, mechanical assembly, piping and testing.

Our containerised nitrogen generators are self-contained, portable units, built and factory-tested in our Australian workshop before delivery. Systems of this design are already operating reliably at sites across Australia, including several years of continuous service in the oil and gas sector — demanding environments where nitrogen supply cannot be left to chance.

You deal with one accountable supplier from concept through to a tested, working unit — designed, built, programmed, tested and documented by CW Electrical & Automation, and delivered with the risk assessment and operating procedures your site needs to run it safely.

Why Sites Choose On-Site Nitrogen Generation

Where Nitrogen Generation Systems Add Real Value

Nitrogen generation systems deliver the most value where a reliable, controlled gas supply underpins safety and production. CW designs and builds each system around the environment it will operate in — the flow, purity and operating conditions your work actually demands.

We have designed and built nitrogen generation systems of this type before — units that have been operating reliably at multiple sites across Australia for several years, including in the oil and gas sector. We take complete ownership of delivery: process integration, electrical and PLC/HMI automation, mechanical assembly, testing and documentation, all under one roof. You get a single accountable supplier and a system that is proven before it reaches your site.

Compressed air is dried and filtered, then passed through a bank of selective membrane modules. Oxygen and water vapour permeate through the membrane walls and are vented safely, while nitrogen passes through as the product gas. A PLC-based control system regulates the process, and the operator sets the required purity at the HMI touchscreen. There are no moving parts in the separation process itself, which makes membrane systems well suited to continuous, low-maintenance operation.

Every nitrogen generator we deliver is a complete, working package — designed, built and proven before it leaves our workshop. A typical scope includes:

  • Process design — membrane process engineering and P&IDs matched to your flow, purity and pressure requirements
  • Electrical, control and automation — control panel, PLC and HMI touchscreen, purity setpoint control, alarms, monitoring and data logging
  • Mechanical build — skid fabrication, container fit-out, air treatment, membranes, piping and valves
  • Integration and testing — full workshop assembly, functional testing and a witnessed Factory Acceptance Test verifying flow, purity, pressure and dew point
  • Documentation — operation and maintenance manuals, as-built drawings and P&IDs, test records, risk assessment and standard operating procedures
  • Delivery — transport-ready unit with forklift pockets and certified lifting provisions

That is driven by your requirements — it is what we design to. As a guide, our containerised systems deliver high flow rates (for example 800 cfm / 1,350 m³/hr) at 95% purity, adjustable up to 99.9% at the touchscreen, with flow reducing as purity increases. Flow, purity, pressure and dew point are all continuously metered and displayed.

Yes — portability is central to the design. The complete system is skid-mounted and containerised as a single transportable unit with forklift pockets and certified lifting provisions. External connections are industry-standard hose fittings, clearly labelled, so the unit can be relocated and re-commissioned with minimal site works.

Typically just compressed air and electrical power. Most clients connect a hired air compressor to the unit’s air inlet, and the system takes care of drying, filtration and separation from there. We confirm the compressed air and electrical supply requirements with you during detailed design, so the unit arrives ready for straightforward hook-up.
